The Austin boys basketball team drilled 15 threes in a 69-59 win at Albert Lea Friday on the road. The Packers (11-11 overall) led 52-51 when they missed a free throw but Jacob Brehmer pulled down the rebound and scored on a put-back.

MANTORVILLE — A man from southeastern Minnesota has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to murdering his wife and son and trying to kill his two daughters, who survived because the young boy intervened.

Just when the Boy Scouts of America became a part of life for the youth in Albert Lea is now a somewhat elusive detail. However, a news report found by Linda Evenson, librarian at the Freeborn County Historical Museum, does provide an indication as to when Scouting may have started in the city.
